안녕하세요 아이도스 입니다! 저는 카자흐스탄에서 태어나고 자랐으며, 2016년에 쌍둥이 동생과 함께 한국에 왔습니다!
저는 세종대학교에서 공부했고 코딩에 대한 관심이 대학교에서 몇 년 동안 나타나기 시작했습니다. 코딩을 시작하기 위한 첫 단계로 코딩 관련 수업을 듣고 2019에서 데이터 사이언스를 배우기 시작했습니다.
세종대학교를 졸업한 후 저는 카자흐스탄의 Deloitte와 PWC라는 BIG 4 회계법인 두 곳에서 채용 제안을 받았습니다. 하지만, 저는 그 기회들을 추구하기보다는 새로운 것들을 만들고 개발할 수 있는 분야에서 일하는 것에 관심이 있다는 것을 깨달았기 때문에 iOS 개발에 집중하는 것을 선택했습니다.

제가 한국에 온지도 벌써 7년이 되었네요. 2016년 가을, 제 쌍둥이 동생과 함께 처음 한국에 왔어요. 여행으로 온건 아니었고, 카자흐스탄에서 부터 준비해서 세종대학교에서 공부하기 위해 오게 되었어요.

외국과 비교해서 한국 기업의 장점과 단점은 어떤 게 있나요!?

안타깝게도 저는 iOS 개발자로서 외국에서 일할 기회가 없었어요. 그래서 한국과 외국 기업의 차이를 공정하게 구분하기 어렵지요. 다만 한국 회사에 다니는 외국인으로서, 이 주제는 매우 크고 흥미로운 주제이기 때문에 가볍게 다루고 싶진 않은데요!
테크 스타트업 문화와 개발자 커뮤니티는 전 세계적으로 비슷하기 때문에 다른 나라의 테크 스타트업에서 개발자로 일하는 것은 매우 유사한 업무와 업무 흐름을 가질 것이라고 생각합니다. 하지만 가장 큰 차이점은 다른 나라의 회사 문화, 언어, 사회적 관계 문화일 수 있습니다. 이러한 요인은 다른 국가의 테크 스타트업에서 일하는 경험에 상당한 영향을 미칠 수 있으므로 항상 고려해야 합니다.
한국의 직장 문화를 독특하게 만드는 한 가지 주목할 만한 특징은 바로 ‘회식’이예요! 회식은 구성원들이 서로 친해지고 가까워지는 가장 좋은 문화 중 하나라고 생각합니다. 저는 회식할 때 팀원들과 시간을 보내고 재미있는 대화를 나누는 것을 즐깁니다.

맞아요. 아무래도 가장 기억에 남는 건 가장 처음 맞이한 난관인 입사 직후입니다.
iOS 앱 개발 프로세스는 코딩뿐만 아니라 UX/UI 디자이너, 백엔드 개발자 및 Android 앱 개발자와의 지속적인 커뮤니케이션을 포함하는데요. 닥터다이어리에서 일하기 시작했을 2021년, 저는 일상적인 한국어도 잘 할 수 없었어요. 게다가 주니어 iOS 개발자로서 배우고 연습해야 할 것들이 많았죠.
닥터다이어리에서 일하기 시작했을 2021년, 저는 일상적인 한국어도 잘 할 수 없었어요. 게다가 주니어 iOS 개발자로서 배우고 연습해야 할 것들이 많았죠. 제대로 퍼포먼스를 내기 위해서 iOS 개발은 틈날 때마다 꾸준히 공부했고, 주말에는 하루에 5시간씩 한국어 수업을 들었습니다. 두 가지 기술을 동시에 향상시키는 것은 쉽지만은 않았습니다. 매일 시간과 에너지를 적절히 관리해야만 했죠. 때로는 지칠 때도 있었지만, 양방향으로 향상되는 느낌이 즐겁기도 했습니다.
결론적으로 지금은 iOS 개발 측면에서도 초기에 가지고 있던 것보다 코드 품질, 개발 속도, 전반적인 제품 이해도가 크게 향상된 되었다는 피드백을 받고 있고, 한국어로 닥터다이어리 멤버들과 대화하는 것도 훨씬 수월해졌습니다. 크게 어색함이 없으니까요
앞으로도 두 가지 스킬 모두 계속 향상시킬 계획입니다!
일하는 시간 제외하고 평소엔 어떻게 시간 보내세요?
저는 보통 매주 시간을 내서 친구들과 만나서 활동을 같이 합니다. 그리고 시간이 날 때 쌍둥이 형과 함께 앱 프로젝트를 공동으로 진행합니다.

그 외에는 스트레스를 풀고 만족감을 느끼기 위해 운동을 하거나 음악을 만드는데요. 특히 주중에 운동하는 시간을 가지려고 노력해요. 왜냐하면 제 성과와 전반적인 건강에 긍정적인 영향을 미치기 때문이죠. 음악을 만드는 것은 제가 학창시절 가장 열정적이었던 것이고, 지금은 좀 더 창의적인 것으로 머리를 바꾸고 스트레스를 잊기 위해 취미로 하고 있습니다.

저는 한국과 다른 나라에서의 취업 기회를 모두 고려할 생각이예요. 저의 이주 결정은 한국이나 다른 나라에서 가능한 잠재적인 기회, 현재 제 직업 목표, 그리고 제 개인적인 관심사와 같은 다양한 요소들에 달려 있지요. 아직까지는 한국에서 개발자로 성장할 수 있는 기회가 있다고 생각하고 있어요. 그래서 당장 다른 나라로 이주할 계획은 없고, 한국이란 나라에 대해서도 더 많은 것을 발견하고 싶습니다.
앞으로 커리어에 있어서 계획이나 목표가 어떻게 되나요?
앞으로 몇 년 안에 Senior iOS 엔지니어가 되어 고품격 iOS 앱을 개발하면서 도전적인 프로젝트를 통해 최대한 많은 경험을 쌓는 것이 제 경력 목표입니다. 저는 공학 기술을 지속적으로 배우고 향상시키는 데 전념하고 있으며, 혁신적인 프로젝트에 종사할 기회를 갖기를 희망합니다.
장기적으로는 대규모 모바일 소프트웨어 애플리케이션 개발을 주도하는 것이 목표입니다. 이를 위해 저는 소프트웨어 개발에 대해 지속적으로 배우고 리더십, 제품 사고, 커뮤니케이션 등 다른 기술을 향상시켜 다양하고 창의적인 마인드를 유지할 계획입니다.

Hi everyone!

My name is Aidos and I am an iOS Developer at DrDiary.

I was born and raised in Kazakhstan, and I came to Korea with my twin brother in 2016.
•
I studied at Sejong University and my interest in coding started emerging during my those years at the university. I took coding-related classes and in 2019 started learning Data Science as a first step to start coding.
•
After graduating from Sejong University I received job offers from two of BIG 4 accounting firms called Deloitte and PWC in Kazakhstan. However, rather than pursuing those opportunities, I chose to focus on a career in iOS development because I realized that I am interested in working in a field where I can create and develop new things.

I joined DrDiary in the summer of 2021, and currently, I work in DrDiary’s Development team.
What role does Aidos play as a Dr.Diary development team?
•
I am a part of the iOS Development team. Me and my team members 유근식 and 한승진 develop DrDiary iOS App.

My responsibilities include building and testing new app features, improving existing features, fixing bugs, and improving the code base of the iOS app project.

As a team member, I think my team members would describe me as a team worker and a reliable person.
•
When I work on a project, I try to see the bigger picture of the project and focus on contributing to the big picture. As an iOS developer, I strive to enhance the features and products on the iOS side to provide an enjoyable app experience for users. I also proactively address any potential issues that can be improved in the project. In team collaborations, I make sure to complete my assigned tasks efficiently so that my team members can depend on me and focus on their own responsibilities. When I see a team member, who is performing a difficult task, I try to find a way to help him, even if it's small.
How did you first come to Korea?

It's already been 6 years since I came to Korea. In the fall of 2016, I came to Korea with my twin brother for the first time. I didn't come here for a trip, but I prepared from Kazakhstan and came here to study at Sejong University.

My brother and I graduated from high school and began searching for universities to attend. We applied to several universities in various countries, including Sejong University in Korea. After being offered a full scholarship to study at Sejong University, we made the decision to pursue our undergraduate degrees there.

Since then, we have both graduated and started our careers in Korea.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of Korean companies compared to foreign countries?
This is an interesting question haha

Since my career is not very long, I have not yet had work experience as an iOS developer in a foreign company. Therefore, I am not able to compare the experience of working in a Korean company versus a foreign company. However, as a foreigner working for a Korean company, I think it is impossible to briefly cover the differences because it is a very big and interesting topic.

I think since tech startup culture and the developers' community are more or less similar around the world, working as a developer in a tech startup in another country will likely have very similar duties and workflow. However, the biggest difference may be the company culture, language, and social relationship culture in the new location. These factors can significantly impact the experience of working in a tech startup in another country and should always be considered.

One notable feature that makes Korea's workplace culture unique is the company dinner! I think company dinners are one of the best cultures for members to get close to each other. I enjoy spending time with the team members and having interesting conversations during ‘회식’ time!

There is one particular difficulty that I had to overcome in the beginning.
•
For context, iOS app Development process includes not only coding, but also constant communication with other members mostly with UX/UI designers, back-end developers and Android app developers.

When I started working in DrDiary back in 2021, I barely could speak casual Korean let alone having deep and detailed conversations. Also as a junior iOS Developer I had to constantly learn and practice iOS development.
•
So during my first months in Dr.Diary, to perform well, I had to work hard not only on iOS Development skills, but also work on my communication in Korean. However, I have to note that at that time, some team members could speak English, and others did not. So every week I was continuously studying iOS Development, and in the weekends I had Korean classes for 5 hours a day. To improve both skills at the same time, I had to properly manage my time and energy everyday. Sometimes I was exhausted, but I enjoyed the feeling of improvement in both directions.

As time went on, I started seeing that I started having better results in both Korean Language and iOS Development.

In terms of Korean, I started much better understanding both casual and work related conversations.
•
In terms of iOS development, I also could see that the code quality, development speed and overall product understanding improved greatly comparing what I had in the beginning.

As of now, I still keep improving both skills, but now it is much easier to handle tasks in iOS development and have conversations with DrDiary members in Korean without any awkward miscommunication.
How do you usually spend your time outside your working hours?
•
Usually, I meet up with my friends every week, and we do something together. When I have free time, I also work on my iOS app project with my brother.

My brother and I are currently working on a project called MyOKR, which is a goal management web and iOS app that utilizes the OKR (Objective & Key Result) framework. I am in charge of the iOS app development, while my brother is responsible for the front-end and back-end of the app.

To relieve stress and feel fulfilled, I workout or make music. I try to make time to exercise during the workweek because it has a positive impact on my performance and overall well-being. Making music is something that I used to be passionate about, and now I do it as a hobby to switch my brain to something more creative and forget about stress.
Will you continue to stay in Korea or if you go to another country, where would you like to go?

I am open to considering job opportunities in both Korea and other countries. My decision to relocate would depend on various factors such as the potential opportunities available in Korea or another country, my current career goals, and my personal interests. At present, I do not have plans to move to another country because I believe there are opportunities for me to grow as a developer in Korea, and I am also interested in discovering more about the country itself.
What are your plans and goals for your future career?

In the next few years, my career goal is to become a senior iOS engineer and gain as much experience as possible from challenging projects while developing high-quality iOS apps. I am dedicated to continuously learning and improving my engineering skills, and I hope to have the opportunity to work on innovative projects.

In the long term, my goal is to lead the development of large-scale mobile software applications. To achieve this, I plan to continually learn about software development and enhance my other skills, such as leadership, product thinking, and communication, in order to keep my mind diverse and creative.
